Who we are
DebtSolution.net is run by a small, independent editorial team. We write guides to Debt Management Plans, IVAs, Debt Relief Orders, bankruptcy and other options, and to common problems such as County Court Judgments, bailiffs and council tax arrears.
Our guides are written for people in England and Wales. Where the rules are different in Scotland or Northern Ireland, we say so and point you to services that cover those nations.
We don’t publish named author profiles. Our guides are credited to the DebtSolution.net editorial team, and we don’t claim that they are written or reviewed by qualified debt advisers or insolvency practitioners. Instead, every guide is checked against official sources that you can follow and verify yourself.
What we are not
We are
- An independent information website
- Free to use, with no sign-up or forms
- Open about our sources and when each page was updated
- Happy to be corrected when we get something wrong
We are not
- A debt management company or debt charity
- Authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
- A source of regulated debt advice or advice about your own situation
- Able to contact creditors or set up any debt solution for you
Because we’re not regulated, our guides are general information only. For advice that takes your circumstances into account, use a free, FCA-authorised service such as StepChange, National Debtline or Citizens Advice — our free debt advice page helps you choose. Read our full disclaimer.
How we research and check our guides
- Official sources first. We check facts against GOV.UK, the Insolvency Service, legislation.gov.uk, the FCA Handbook, HMRC and MoneyHelper, and use guidance from Citizens Advice, National Debtline, StepChange and Shelter.
- Specific figures are dated. Limits and fees — such as the £50,000 Debt Relief Order debt limit or the £680 bankruptcy fee — change. Every guide shows when it was last updated.
- Downsides included. We explain the costs, risks and credit-file effects of each option, not just the benefits.
- No invented numbers. We don’t publish made-up statistics, testimonials or promises about how much debt you could write off.
Our editorial policy explains the process in full, including how we handle corrections.
How we make money
At the moment, we don’t earn any money from this site. There are no adverts, no affiliate links and no referral partnerships, and no company pays us to recommend it. The free services we link to, such as StepChange and National Debtline, are recommended because they are free and regulated — we receive nothing from them.
We may in future show clearly labelled adverts or affiliate links to help cover running costs. If we do, we will say so on this page and next to any affiliate link, and commercial arrangements will never decide which debt solution a guide recommends. We will not sell or pass on visitors’ details to debt companies.
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are useful. Our privacy policy explains what that involves.
Feedback and corrections
For general questions, email info@debtsolution.net. If you spot an error, email corrections@debtsolution.net with the page address and what you think is wrong. We can’t give advice about individual debts by email. See our contact page for more.
