Disclaimer

DebtSolution.net provides general information about debt in England and Wales. It is not financial, legal or debt advice, and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Before making a decision about your debts, speak to a free, regulated debt adviser who can look at your circumstances — see free debt advice.

General information only

Our guides explain how debt solutions and debt-related procedures generally work. They can’t take account of your income, debts, assets, household or other circumstances, so they are not a recommendation that any particular option is right for you. The best option depends on details that only a proper assessment can uncover.

We are not a regulated firm

DebtSolution.net is an independent information website. We are not a debt management company, a debt charity, an insolvency practitioner, a law firm or a lender, and we are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We don’t provide debt counselling, arrange debt solutions or contact creditors on anyone’s behalf.

Free, FCA-authorised debt advice is available from organisations such as StepChange, National Debtline and Citizens Advice, or through the MoneyHelper debt advice locator.

Accuracy and changes to the rules

We work hard to keep our guides accurate and check them against official sources, as described in our editorial policy. But laws, fees, limits and official guidance change, and mistakes can happen. Each guide shows when it was last updated. Before relying on a figure — such as a fee, a debt limit or a deadline — check it with the official source we link to or with a debt adviser.

Our guides focus on England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have different laws and debt solutions.

If you spot an error, please email corrections@debtsolution.net.

Calculators and tools

Our calculators and the free help finder give rough estimates and suggestions based on simplified assumptions. They aren’t an assessment of your eligibility for any debt solution, and real outcomes depend on your creditors, your circumstances and the rules at the time. They run in your browser and don’t send your answers to us.

No guarantee of outcomes

We can’t guarantee how creditors, courts, the Insolvency Service or anyone else will respond in your case — for example, whether creditors will freeze interest, accept a payment offer or approve an IVA, or how much debt might be written off.

Links to other websites

We link to official bodies and free advice services because they are useful. We aren’t responsible for the content of other websites, and a link isn’t an endorsement of everything on them. We don’t receive payment for any link on this site. If we ever add adverts or affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled, as explained on our About us page.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we aren’t liable for any loss arising from reliance on information on this website. Nothing in this disclaimer limits any liability that cannot be limited under the law of England and Wales.

If you’re struggling

Money worries can affect your mental health. If you’re finding things hard, you can talk to Samaritans free on 116 123 at any time, contact your GP, or call NHS 111. Mental Health & Money Advice has practical guidance on dealing with both. If your life is in danger, call 999.
